More snow on the way for midwestern Ontario

If this past weekend’s winter storm wasn’t enough for midwestern Ontarians, lake effect snow could bring up to 30 centimetres of additional snowfall in certain areas of midwestern Ontario on Monday night.

Environment Canada issued a winter weather advisory for municipalities throughout the Huron-Perth and Grey-Bruce area, with an additional 5 to 10 cm of snowfall possible by Tuesday morning. Weather advisories are in effect for Goderich, Bluewater, Southern Huron County, Wingham, Blyth, Northern Huron County, Hanover, Dundalk, Southern Grey County, Saugeen Shores, Kincardine, and Southern Bruce County.

Motorists are warned that travel may be hazardous due to sudden changes in the weather. Many roads throughout Huron County remain closed following a treacherous weekend blizzard that led much of the province to shut down schools, transit systems, community centres, and more.

Further north, heavier snowfall is expected. Tobermory, Sauble Beach, and Bruce Peninsula are under a snow squall warning. These areas could see 30 – 50 cm of additional snowfall by Tuesday night. Meanwhile, Owen Sound, Blue Mountain, and Northern Grey County are under snow squall watch, expecting 10 – 20 cm of snowfall in certain areas.

UPDATE: As of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, snow squall warnings and winter weather advisories were no longer in effect.
