The Director of Resource Development & Communications for the United Way Perth Huron says Coldest Night of the Year walks will be taking place throughout Huron and Perth on February 25.
Susan Faber says walks will be held in Goderich, Exeter, Wingham and Listowel. She says this will be the fourth year for Goderich and Exeter, the third for Listowel, and the second year for Wingham. Faber says they usually have a huge turnout in Goderich.
“So they walk around the Square there. In Wingham, that event is still growing and I know we need quite a few more people to sign up in Wingham, so if you're in the Northern Huron area and you want to walk in Blyth, that's great, or in Howick," Faber said.
Faber adds they always have a great turnout in Exeter, and last year they had about 200 people in Listowel. She says proceeds from the Coldest Night of the Year walk go to a very important cause.
“It supports the Huron Homelessness Initiative, which is a shelter for women and children, the Out of the Cold shelter in Goderich, Huron Turning Point, which a transitional home for men, as well as youth supports and then our two Connection Centres," shared Faber.
The Connection Centre in Exeter is up and running and United Way hopes to be opening the one in Wingham very soon.
Faber says the walks are all being held on Saturday, February 25 and the weather forecast is currently calling for a cool day, with snow, which would be appropriate. Walkers are asked to start meeting around 4:30 p.m. and all of the walks start at 5:00 p.m. More information about the Coldest Night of the Year Walks in Huron and Perth can be found on the United Way Perth Huron website.
