The area around 4th Avenue East and 8th Street East has reopened after emergency crews responded to a "major accident" that led to a natural gas leak.
The collision happened around 3:41 p.m. on Saturday when a Ford pickup truck struck a Kia SUV, according to police. The Kia reportedly veered off-road striking a residence at 795 4th Avenue East, while the truck spun onto the lawn of the same property.
Both drivers were sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. They were each the lone occupants of their vehicles.
As a result of the collision, police say the 4th Avenue East home suffered structural damage and a natural gas line was severed. Nearby residents had to be evacuated as Hydro One and Enbridge attended the scene.
Police advised 8th Street East was closed from 5th Avenue East to 3rd Avenue East, and that 4th Avenue east was closed from 9th Street East to 7th Street East as crews responded to the incident.
The area re-opened around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday and residents have been able to re-enter the home.
Officers continue to investigate the collision and charges are currently pending. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to call Constable Birinyi at 519-376-1234, extension 130.
