Huron County sets priorities

Huron County Council and the county's Senior Management team have announced their five priorities for the four year term that concludes in 2026.

Warden Glen McNeil says it will come as a surprise to no one that the first priority is the housing shortage and the need for all types of housing to meet the needs of Huron County residents.

“The second priority is homelessness and we as a county have addressed that with a housing build in Goderich that we are partnering with the town of Goderich to build affordable housing, rent geared to income, and supportive housing,” said McNeil.

He added the county is continuing to look at all options to address the homelessness situation.

“We're also looking at alternative energy solutions and when a person thinks of that we may think electric vehicles, which is an option and also we're considering hydrogen and renewable energy and the applications that they may have going forward," McNeil continued.

“We in Huron County are a very welcoming and inclusive community and I hope that that is evident in the way that we welcome all members of our community. And we have various functions for them and festivals. The Multi-Cultural Festival was just held this past weekend,” McNeil said.

McNeil says the fifth priority is a service level review to flush out any efficiencies that can be found. McNeil says it is a four year term but the priorities will also be reviewed in two years to determine what they've accomplished to that point and what remains to be done.
