Township looks for feedback on short-term rentals

The Township of Georgian Bluffs is looking for public feedback regarding short-term accommodations, or rentals.

Right now, the township is examining the management of short-term rental properties, including things like Airbnb's. Those can include properties like condominiums, bungalows, single-family homes, cottages, cabins, and campsites that are rented to individuals or groups on a temporary basis.

The township acknowledges that short-term rentals help with things like tourism, but they can bring unique challenges to neighbourhoods.

Residents are invited to participate in a brief survey to provide your feedback, which will be presented to Council as they develop future policies around short-term rentals.

To have your voice heard and contribute to the community engagement process, the Township urges you to complete a short survey at www.engageGB.ca. Hard copy surveys are available at the Township Administration Office, Derby Community Centre, Shallow Lake Community Centre, and Kemble Arena. A Public Information Session will also be held on August 24th, to allow for in-person public input.

“STA’s are an important part of the community of Georgian Bluffs, supporting tourism and providing economic support to the community through job provision and areas like local retail,” said Acting Chief Administrative Officer, Niall Lobley. “However, we are aware that residents and communities have experienced challenges and have concerns about their neighbourhoods, and we need to ensure as a municipality we reflect the need of the community to balance STA operations and communities' sense of place.”

"We encourage all stakeholders to actively participate in this consultation and provide their feedback. By working together, we can strike a balance that ensures the sustainable growth of our community while preserving its unique character and natural beauty," added Mayor Sue Carleton.
