UPDATE: Unsanctioned truck rally cancelled

Huron County OPP were preparing for what they referred to as an "unsanctioned truck rally" in Goderich.

Police say the rally was potentially heading into Goderich and the Central Huron area on the evening of July 28.

However, after police spoke with the organizer of the event, and after learning about the potential liabilities for the event, the organizer opted to cancel the truck rally.

Although the event has been cancelled, Huron County OPP officers will be out on patrol and monitoring the area to deter any aggressive driving behaviours on roadways and areas open to the public.

Similar events held in other areas have resulted in illegal acts like stunt driving, dangerous driving and other offences.

·      Intentionally causing tires to lose traction. Ex "burnout".

·      Intentionally causing a vehicle to spin. Ex "drifting".

·      Driving a motor vehicle with someone in the trunk.

 The penalties for stunt driving:

 ·      Maximum fine of $10,000.

·      Six demerit points.

·      14-day vehicle impoundment.

·      30-day driver's licence suspension.

·      Court ordered license suspension - for a first offence, a minimum of one to three years.

·      Jail sentence of up to six months.

·      Mandatory driver improvement course at the defendant's expense.

·      Classified as a "serious" offence by insurance companies.
