Lake Huron Coastal Centre halfway through beach clean-ups

The Coastal Conservation Youth Corps volunteers have almost reached the half way point in their summer beach clean-ups.

Alyssa Bourassa, Coastal Stewardship Technician says they've already conducted clean-ups at several area beaches and they're hoping for more volunteers.

“Our goal is to have seven hundred people come out this year," said Bourassa. "So far we've had 416 people out to our events so we have 284 people left to reach our target.”

The group will be in Meaford and Owen Sound on August 13, on August 19 they'll be in Port Elgin, and on August 20th they'll be in Point Clark. More clean-up dates are also set for the fall.

Bourassa said they have several partners working with them.

“The events are really fun and educational and we get a lot done with even sometimes just a small team, but we can have as many as 200 come out to one of our events," said Bourassa. "It's really beautiful to see.”
