Huron County residents are invited to share favourite family recipes through a new community arts project.
Huron County Cultural Services Marketing and Branding Coordinator Amy Zoethout says part of the project is to encourage newcomers to join in and share their cultures as well.
“The idea was to provide an opportunity to share favourite family recipes and to add art and favourite stories to that project that will be presented in any cookbook that will be available there this fall," Zoethout shared.
Zoethout says they'll be hosting workshops at the Exeter Library, the Goderich Library and the Alice Munro Library in Wingham.
“Participants will work with local artists who will help guide participants through that process of sharing the story behind their favourite family recipe while creating a piece of art that will go along with it in the book," added Zoethout
Participation will be confirmed by September 1 and the workshops will begin during Newcomer Welcoming Week in September and are free to attend, but are limited to 15 in each of the three Huron County Library locations. They'll be at the Exeter Branch on September 14 and 28 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m., at the Goderich Branch on September 9 and September 23 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. and the Alice Munro Branch in Wingham on September 12 and 19 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m., as well.
The project is coordinated through a partnership with Huron County’s Cultural Services, Economic Development Taste of Huron and Local Immigration Partnership departments. The project is funded in part by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
