The PJHL has announced the sites of two Prospect Games this season.
The two games will feature all the top 16 and 17-year-olds in the league, with games taking place in Wingham and Uxbridge on November 4.
The game in Wingham will see the North Conference Prospects host the West Conference Prospects while the game in Uxbridge will have the East Conference Prospects hosting the South Conference Prospects. Both games will be a 1 p.m. puck drop. The games are spnsored by the Dairy Farmers of Ontario.
Wingham Ironmen GM Cory Hamilton says hosting an event like this in Wingham, during the team's 50th anniversary, is another cherry on top of this special season so far.
"So we actually applied to host the game last year, and they ended up going with Mitchell for our loop. Which was fine, they can only have one arena. But it came across that they were looking for a host this year, and it was perfect timing, and I'll give Jamie McCallum from our executive board the credit here, for spearheading this application to host it. He, Wayne Johnston and I were sitting there the other day and just thought, 'Why wouldn't we be great host?' We have a lot going on this year, and it's actually after our Alumni Day, which is Saturday, October 14, and it'll give us another boost," Hamilton enthused.
Every team puts forward one name off their roster to participate, and Wingham will be sending 17-year-old rookie Jesse Coombs to the game this year. Last year, his team mate Brandon Bishop played in the game, and he would still qualify if a spot needs filled. Same goes for fellow 17-year-old rookie Keaton VanDerHoek. Hamilton says they're happy to have any player involved, because that's what the day is all about.
"Obviously it's all about the players, and having them have a chance to showcase where they're at in their careers, and play with some different people and against some different people. It should be good, we're really looking forward to having it," added Hamilton.
The PJHL has 63 member teams with over 1,400 players playing in the league annually.
