HSKWSP calling on community to adopt, foster, donate

The Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo and Stratford Perth (HSKWSP) is calling on the community to give some animals their "fur"-ever home.

Both locations are almost at capacity with more than 120 animals between them.

"We have 125 animals in care between our two centres and another 68 pets waiting for help," said Victoria Baby, chief executive officer. "We are hoping our community will choose to adopt and add a new member to their family. If you cannot adopt, we urge you to open your hearts and homes and become a foster parent."

Fostering is a great help for animal shelters as it lowers the pet's stress and anxiety, giving them lots of love and room to move and play.

"We are desperately looking for volunteer foster parents until they are ready for adoption," said Denise Rowse, manager of volunteers. "We provide training, food, supplies, and medical care. All you have to do is provide space and lots of love."

If you are unable to adopt or foster, the HSKWSP says donating or spreading the word is also a big help.

If you're interested in looking at the animals up for adoption, donating, or applying to be a foster, you can visit their website. Select dogs (like Hazel, pictured above) that are long-term residents have lowered adoption fees as they look for their forever home.
