Book fair focuses on Grey Bruce material

A local authors book fair will showcase many of the different stories, people, and information from Grey and Bruce Counties.

The Owen Sound and North Grey Union Library has opened registration for local authors and authors with a Grey or Bruce County connection.

Information Services Specialist Shauna Doyle said authors can apply for a booth at the Library’s two-day book fair coming up later this summer before August 9, 2024.

She revealed this is a new venture for the library.

"We were talking about how fun the school book fairs can be, and we thought that an author fair at the library would also create some fun atmosphere and get people interested in reading local authors," Doyle explained.

Authors are welcome to sell their books during the fair and there is no cost for a booth.

Doyle pointed out there's no shortage of material thanks to a talented community of writers in Grey Bruce.

"We are very committed to highlighting local authors in the community. We have over 500 books in our local author and Grey Bruce Connection Collection. It's a way for people to learn about the community and also share stories and get to know each other," she added. "So we here have a large collection and for people to read, and just know what's going on in the area and to know about people's memories."

Doyle noted the Grey Bruce Collection is extensive.

"So we have lots of local authors," she continued. "We do have children's books, picture books, some poetry collections, memoirs, biographies, even cookbooks as well, recipe books from the community."

The fair will run from Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 19.

To apply, people should fill out an application form and submit it by Friday, August 9 2024. Forms are available on the library’s website www.library.osngupl.ca and at the Information Desk. For more information contact 519-376-6623 ext.3 or info@library.osngupl.ca.
