Two people rescued after jet ski capsizes in Lake Huron

Lifejackets are being credited with helping to keep two people from drowning after their jet ski capsized off the coast of Kincardine.

South Bruce OPP were called about the pair in the waters of Lake Huron off Station Beach, yelling for help around 8:40 p.m. on Monday.

The jet ski the two people had been riding overturned about 400 metres from shore, police said.

Officers arrived to find the pair, both wearing lifejackets, in the water. They were brought back to shore where they were checked over by paramedics as a precaution.

"The South Bruce OPP wants to remind everyone that the only life jacket that can save your life is the one you are wearing," police said in a statement issued Tuesday.

They also advised boaters and those operating personal watercraft to check and monitor marine weather forecasts as conditions can change quickly, to let someone know your planned route and estimated return time, and ensure you have the proper safety equipment on board each time you sail.
