A Centre Wellington athlete will carry the flag for Canada when the opening ceremonies of the Paris Paralympic Games get underway this afternoon.
Wheelchair basketball star Patrick Anderson from Fergus was named one of the nations flag-bearers, alongside Newfoundland's Katarina Roxon.
Anderson is about to take part in his sixth Paralympic Games. The 45-year-old has won three gold medals and one silver in his lengthy career, and is still one Canada's top players.
"This is a big honour and special thing," said Anderson. "This is a special country and an opportunity to represent wheelchair basketball in front of the world and the entire Canadian Paralympic Team. It was very much a surprise. I’ve been chosen, and I will step up. It’s going to be really cool."
The men's wheelchair basketball team will start its Olympic journey on August 30, with a preliminary round game against Germany.
