The Town of Minto is hosting a special Black History Month event.
Minto’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion committee is putting on the event as part of the Cultural Connections: A Diversity Learning Series. It will take place on February 15 from 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Harriston Library Community Room, offering an opportunity to "explore the rich and often untold stories of Black Canadians and their contributions to the nation’s history," according to a release.
Guest speaker Tracy Lee, a proud fifth-generation Black Canadian, will will share her ancestor's stories of arriving in Canada via the Underground Railroad in a special presentation, highlighting their courage, resilience, and contributions to Canadian society.
Tickets are only $5, and can be purchased online through Eventbrite or in-person at the Town of Minto Administrative Office or the Launchit Minto Office. Space is limited so register by February 8 at the latest.
"We’re thrilled to bring this vital conversation to the community,” said Marketing and Community Development Coordinator, Erin Raftis. “This event is an opportunity for us to celebrate Black heritage while fostering understanding and inclusivity in Minto.”
