Stratford Perth launches Tariff Task Force to support businesses amid trade concerns

As concerns grow over U.S. tariffs on Canadian industries, local leaders in Stratford, St. Marys, and Perth County have come together to launch the Stratford Perth Tariff Task Force, an initiative aimed at supporting businesses and citizens through potential economic disruptions.

The task force, spearheaded by investStratford in partnership with the City of Stratford, the Town of St. Marys, and Perth County, will serve as a regional hub for information, resources, and advocacy. It is designed to provide businesses with timely updates, expert insights, and access to government support programs that could help them adapt to changing trade conditions.

With the global trade landscape evolving, local officials say it is critical for businesses to be prepared for possible tariff-related impacts, particularly in key sectors like manufacturing, agriculture, and small enterprise, all of which play a significant role in the region’s economy.

To ensure businesses have the tools they need, investStratford has launched a dedicated resource page where companies can stay informed about the latest developments. The page will be updated regularly with new information, including potential financial assistance programs and strategic guidance from trade experts.

Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma emphasized the urgency of the situation, calling it the greatest challenge he has faced since taking office.

"The introduction of new tariffs has the potential to impact Stratford residents and businesses alike, making it more important than ever that we come together as a region to stay informed and prepared," Ritsma said. "The Stratford Perth Tariff Task Force will serve as a vital resource, ensuring that our community has access to the latest information, tools, and support needed to navigate these challenges. By working collaboratively, we can protect local jobs, maintain economic stability, and advocate for the best interests of our citizens."

The initiative also highlights the importance of a united regional approach to trade-related issues. St. Marys and Perth County have joined Stratford in this effort, recognizing that economic disruptions could affect businesses across the entire region.

Joani Gerber, CEO of investStratford, noted that uncertainty in trade policies can create significant hurdles, particularly for small businesses and larger industries reliant on exports.

"Trade uncertainty can create real challenges for local businesses, particularly those in manufacturing, agriculture, and small enterprise. The Stratford Perth Tariff Task Force is a proactive step to ensure that businesses across Stratford, St. Marys, and Perth County have access to the information, resources, and advocacy they need to remain competitive," Gerber explained.

Local businesses are encouraged to stay updated on tariff-related developments by visiting the Stratford Perth Tariff Task Force online resource page at www.investstratford.com/taskforce.
