The Town of St. Marys will mark International Women’s Day 2025 with events and initiatives aimed at supporting women, raising awareness about period poverty, and fostering inclusion.
On Saturday, March 8, the St. Marys Public Library will highlight its Period Pantry, a project providing complimentary period products such as pads, tampons, and Diva Discs. Made possible by the Shoppers Foundation for Women’s Health and the Huron-Perth Period Poverty Task Force, this initiative seeks to address affordable access to menstrual products.
"We are proud to help provide essential period products to our community,” said Sarah Andrews, CEO of the St. Marys Public Library. “This initiative not only addresses a critical need but also fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for all."
The Period Pantry is available year-round during library hours, and donations are welcome by contacting 519-284-3346.
Additionally, the St. Marys Friendship Centre will host its annual International Women’s Day event on Friday, March 7, at 1:00 PM, with this year’s theme: "Accelerate Action." The free event will feature speakers including:
Aileen Burgin, discussing her work with the Super Aging Initiative.
Myrna Fisk, speaking on the Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).
Julie Sawchuck, bestselling author, on proactive planning for accessibility and inclusion.
"Our annual International Women's Day event is an opportunity to celebrate the incredible contributions of women in our community and to inspire action and change for a more equitable future." said Jenny Mikita, Senior Services Manager.
