Wellington County claims that incidents of speeding have been reduced by 17 per cent at five five trial locations for the Automated Speed Enforcement pilot.
According to a media release from the county, the reduction was seen between January 15 and April 30, 2025.
Additionally, the county says that there's been a 66 per cent increase in vehicles on average travelling at or lower than the posted speed limit in the five trial locations.
Wellington County Council will receive a comprehensive report in June regarding the Automated Speed Enforcement pilot project's overall effectiveness including collision reporting, vehicle speed data, and administrative penalty data.
"ASE has never been about punishment," said Gregg Davidson, Roads Committee Chair for Wellington County. "It has been about education and keeping our communities safe. Early data shows that ASE cameras in Wellington County have been successful in achieving significant reductions in speeding within the first three and a half months of our one year trial programme."
