One person is dead after a motorcycle and a farm tractor collided north of Listowel.
Emergency crews were called to the crash on Perth Line 88 between Road 167 and Road 171 around 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The 29-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. That individual's name has not been released. The driver of the tractor was not hurt.
The collision kept the section of Perth Line 88 closed for just over seven hours. It was reopened shortly after 2 a.m. on Friday.
Members of the West Region OPP traffic management and enforcement team are assisting Perth OPP officers with the ongoing investigation . Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
The fatal collision came just hours before what is one of the largest motorcycle events in Ontario - the Friday the 13 gathering in Port Dover. Tens of thousands of bikers from across North America descend on the lakeside town in Norfolk County.
OPP have issued a reminder to both motorcyclists and other drivers to share the road and keep safety top of mind.
In a video posted to social media, Sergeant Ed Sanchuk outlined some of the ways drivers could avoid colliding with others on the road.
"Make sure you are double checking your blind spots, signalling your turns, leaving enough time, room and distance between you and other vehicles and motorcycles," Sanchuk said. "For motorcyclists, make sure you are visible to the motoring public. Please, no lane splitting or aggressive driving because I can assure you right now that if you're involved in a crash, a lot of time motorcycle operators suffer life-altering or life-ending injuries."
OPP have said with the higher volume of motorcycles expected over the weekend, they will have an increased presence to prioritize traffic safety.
