Wiarton joins Global Day of Action on September 20

Residents of Grey-Bruce can join a worldwide movement to demand urgent action on climate change, peace, and economic justice.

The event, part of the “Draw the Line” Global Day of Action, begins at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20 outside South Bruce Peninsula Town Hall at 315 George Street in Wiarton.

Spokesperson Tamara Sargent explained that the action is part of a national effort being led by World BEYOND War and the David Suzuki Foundation

"Communities all across Canada and around the world will be taking part in the draw the line day of action, and here in South Bruce Peninsula, we're coming together to demand climate justice, peace and real democracy, and for us, that means standing up against the corporations and the governments fueling climate destruction, but also against war and genocide," Sargant continued. "Like right now in Gaza, tens of thousands of civilians have been murdered by Israel, and journalists are being deliberately targeted, silenced so that Israel can carry out a planned massacre in Gaza City without the world bearing witness. And Canada's complicit in this, sending weapons to Israel as they commit war crimes."

The gathering aims to demonstrate how global struggles intersect with local realities.

"Environmental justice groups, Indigenous sovereignty advocates, Palestine solidarity organizers and Migrant Justice advocates, all standing together because these struggles are connected, and the governments put profit and power over people and the planet, we all suffer," stated Sargent. "So on September 20th, we'll be drawing the line for people, for peace and for the planet."

The rally will include banners and creative visuals highlighting the intersection of struggles facing people and the planet. Speakers will reflect this diversity, focusing on how communities can support one another across movements.
