Staffing shortage forces temporary closure of Clinton ER

Anyone who needs emergency care in Clinton on Tuesday will have to travel outside of the community.

Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance has announced the emergency department at the Clinton Public Hospital will be closed starting at 8 p.m. on Monday and remain shuttered through Tuesday. A staffing shortage has been blamed for the temporary closure.

Paramedics will be rerouted to the nearest available emergency department in either Seaforth, Goderich, or Exeter. Anyone requiring immediate medical attention is still advised to call 911, while those in need of non-urgent health care should call Health Connect Ontario at 811. Health Connect Ontario is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, the healthcare alliance reminded.

The Clinton hospital's ER will resume its regular operating hours of 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday.
