MPPs announce healthcare funds for Huron and Bruce counties

Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson and Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound MPP Paul Vickers announced additional healthcare funds for their ridings on Wednesday.

A joint press release from the two MPPs shared that the provincial government is investing just over $8.5 million in the County of Bruce and just over $8.42 million in the County of Huron through the Land Ambulance Service Grant (LASG).

This funding is meant to "help ensure municipalities address increased costs so they can continue to deliver high-quality emergency care. This investment is part of the more than $1 billion in land ambulance funding Ontario is providing municipalities across the province this year," according to the joint press release from Thompson and Vickers.

The funds will aim to increase the availability of ambulances and paramedics in the region, which will hopefully connect more people to faster care, particularly in emergency situations.

Additionally, the press release claims the provincial government will be investing over $33 million across Ontario through the Dedicated Offload Nurses Program, to "hire nurses and other eligible health professionals dedicated to offloading ambulance patients in hospital emergency departments."

"Every second matters when someone is experiencing a medical emergency, and across Huron-Bruce people need to know that our government continues to invest to ensure help will be available when they need it most," said MPP Thompson. "This investment in Huron and Bruce counties will help support our dedicated paramedics and ambulance services, while reducing delays and ensuring more ambulances are available to respond to 9-1-1 calls."

"Access to reliable emergency care is incredibly important to families across our region. This funding will help support our paramedics and local ambulance services, while helping ensure ambulances can safely and quickly get back into our communities and respond when they are needed most," added MPP Vickers.
