Walkerton Bounce Back In Western Junior C Finals

Following a 7-1 loss at home, Walkerton got back to their game and beat Wingham 4-1 on the road Saturday night.

The visiting Hawks pushed early and often, keeping pressure on Wingham throughout the game and the scoring chances eventually came. Brett Coulson found the net on a breakaway in the first on a nice stretch pass by Carter Franks.

Despite 3 players and an assistant coach suspended, Walkerton showed no holes in their lineup and controlled the tempo throughout the night. Only a series of saves by Ben Nelson keeping the hosts alive.

Wingham's potent powerplay was nowhere to be seen. After going 5/8 Friday, the Ironmen were 0/4 on the man advantage.

In the second period Walkerton pulled away with a 3-0 lead. Jay Thomson scored on the power play while Brett Coulson doubled his total for the evening.

The third saw Wingham show some bite. After juggling the lines and getting the puck deep in the offensive zone, the Ironmen began to get on the attack. Justin Jacklin would find the net on a breakaway, going five-hole on Erik Angeli.

Jacklin's goal spurred some more chances for Wingham late in the game, but the Hawks defence stood tall in the dying minutes. With the Ironmen net empty, Calvin Penney would skate the puck into the gaping goal to ice the game.

Game 4 heads back to Walkerton Sunday at 2:50 p.m. You can hear the game live on CKNX.
