Elmira Native Returns From First Canadian Soccer Team Camp

Elmira's Tyler Pasher is returning to his pro team in Pittsburgh after his first ever call up to the Canadian Men's Soccer Team.

The young defender found himself on the roster for a pair of matches in Florida and Puerto Rico this past week. He got the call as an injury replacement after a pair of Canadians went down ahead of the games.

"He's a pleasant player." Said Canadian national team coach Benito Floro. "We consider him one for the future who can play as a fullback or a winger."

Canada would end up beating Guatemala 1-0 and Puerto 3-0, Pasher would remain on the bench.

But that wasn't his final chance to impress. With the future in mind, Canada will be fielding a young team at the Pan-Am games in Toronto and the U-23 team is looking towards qualifying for the Olympics. Floro says Pasher is be one of the names he expects to see.

"Any player who is called into camp is tested to see if the ability is there." He said. "(Pasher) has the speed and technical ability to be a good player."

Pasher now returns to Pittsburgh to join the Riverhounds of the USL and will await his next chance to wear the maple leaf.
