Leafs Name New GM

Former New Jersey Devils GM Lou Lamoriello has been named GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The announcement was made on the the team's website this morning. Lamoriello becomes the 16th General Manager in Leafs' history, after the 28 seasons with the Devils.

According to the release, Lamoriello first joined the Devils as President and General Manager in 1987. The team went to the Stanley Cup Playoffs 21 times, won nine division titles, went to the Stanley Cup Final five times and won the Cup three times in 1995, 2000 and 2003.

Lamoriello also served as Interim Head Coach at times, most recently in the 2014-20154 season.

In 1996, Lamoriello was the GM of Team USA when it won gold at the World Cup of Hockey.

He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Builder Category in 2009 and into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2012.
