The Listowel Cyclones and London Nationals took Game 1 of their Sutherland Cup Semi-Final past the limit and needed overtime to settle the game.
The Nationals were able to escape Listowel with a 4-3 overtime win.
Both teams exchanged rushes through the game as they showcased their speed on the small ice surface.
London scored first at 12:24 in the first period courtesy of Richard Whittaker.
The Cyclones were able to get on the board in the second period as Ben VanOoteghem tied the game at the 3:41 mark then Chayse Herrfort put Listowel ahead as he picked the corner on the blocker side at 14:07.
But that lead didn't last long. London forward Adam Sinclair scored his first of two on the night just two minutes later. Sinclair's second goal came early in the third period to give London the lead.
Then on a Listowel face-off win, Cyclones' defenceman Danny Skinner ripped a shot through a number of bodies and and it made its way in for the tying goal.
Both teams played to a stalemate and it went into overtime.
After both teams exchanged chances early and killed off a power play each, London's Brandon Glover scored the overtime on a broken play in front of the Listowel night. As defenders went to the far side of the net, the puck bounced to the near side and Glover swept it in.
Listowel's Brock Baier stopped 30 shots and Cameron Zanussi stopped 36.
Listowel coach Jason Brooks says the coaching staff and the players knew they would have to handle some speed.
"We knew the would come down with pressure and for the most part I think we handled it okay," said Brooks. "Again it comes down to winning battles on the wall and having good support over there and again we did that for the most part."
As for chances, Listowel had theirs.
"We had our opportunities off the rush as well and didn't finish on all of them," said Brooks. "But we created some really good quality chances."
Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play including one chance each in the overtime period.
"I think our penalty kill did a good job against their power play which has been the best in the playoffs," said Brooks.
Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is at the Western Fair Centre Saturday night. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm and the action can be heard on cknx.ca.
