The new museum being built on the first floor of the Art Gallery of Windsor now has a name.
It'll be known as the Chimczuk Museum, thanks to a $1-million donation to the city, left in the will of Windsor autoworker Joseph Chimczuk 24 years ago.
Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens says, "past councils have wanted to do the same thing, but haven't been able to overcome the hurdles that existed. But now, with growth in the fund, we're up to $3.3-million. That can really make an impact today, that perhaps $1-million couldn't have 24 years ago."
Dilkens is happy that with the Chimczuk money, a government grant and some funds from the city itself, the timing is finally right to put his name on a museum.Construction is expected to be completed later this year.
