Konecny Plays In Toronto

When the Philadelphia Flyers and Toronto Maple Leafs face off at the Air Canada Centre Friday night, a Chatham-Kent native will also be taking the ice.

Travis Konecny is in his first season with the Flyers, and his family will be in Toronto to watch him.

"Toronto is relatively close to home, there's lots of Leafs fans in our family," says Konecny's dad Rob. "It's the mecca for hockey really in Ontario, so it's a great place for sure to watch a hockey game. It's going to be exciting."

Rob says the Flyers have put Travis in a position to succeed.

"He's learning so much, he has a very positive coaching staff there that's given him lots of opportunities and great players to play with," Rob says. "So I think he's very lucky and very fortunate, and I know he's going to work hard for the coaches and the fans as well."

Rob says it will be really great if Wallaceburg's Seth Griffith dresses for the Leafs tonight.

"In the preseason I know Seth introduced himself to Travis when he was still with Boston. He said hi to him, then Travis and I had a talk about it afterwards. He was like 'oh ya I remember about Seth.' But I don't think they've ever personally met other than that conversation on the ice, but he's well aware that he's a local boy," Rob says.
