Local drug store has innovative solution for those afraid of needles

Flu season will be underway very soon, and health officials are urging the flu vaccine for everyone over the age of six months.

However, what do you do if you are deathly afraid of needles?

Brady's Drug Store has a new service. It is offering virtual-reality-assisted vaccinations.

Instead of grimly looking away only to jump as soon as the pharmacist touches you, or passing out as you watch the plunger sink, patients can watch golden retriever puppies, swimming dolphins, or gaze into outer space while receiving their flu shot.

"Brady's Drug Store is proud to be a neighbourhood pharmacy on the leading edge of patient care," said owner Tim Brady. "It's important to get a flu shot every year, not only for your own health but for the health of those around you."

All the patient has to do is pop on the googles and watch.

The program is especially geared to children.

The Essex store is located in the Essex Medical Centre on Talbot St. S and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
