COVID-19 outbreak declared at Hôtel-Dieu Mental Wellness Centre

A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare's Crisis and Mental Wellness Centre on Ouellette Avenue.

In a media release, the hospital said that as of Saturday morning three staff members have tested positive and are associated with the outbreak.

As a result, hospital officials have enhanced cleaning protocols at the centre and are reinforcing the importance of health recommendations including frequent handwashing and the use of personal protective equipment.

“The Crisis and Mental Wellness Centre remains a safe place for members of our community seeking Mental Health Supports,” said Tammy Kotyk, integrated director of outpatient and community mental health services. “Individual treatment at the Centre will still be provided and groups will be limited to a maximum of five individuals.”

The hospital said it will provide further outbreak updates as information becomes available.

In addition to the Crisis and Mental Wellness Centre, anyone experiencing a mental health or addictions crisis can visit the Mental Health and Addictions Urgent Care Centre located at 1400 Windsor Avenue. Community crisis services are also available at all hours of the day, seven days a week by calling 519-973-4435.

Hospital officials are also reminding residents that anyone experiencing suicidal thoughts, acute psychosis, possible medical issues, severe alcohol dependency or aggressive behaviour should visit the nearest emergency department.
