Classes and bus cohorts were dismissed Tuesday at three of Windsor-Essex's English Catholic elementary schools.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board, acting on the advice of the health unit, sent home one class from Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Elementary in Stoney Point, one class from St. Rose Catholic Elementary in Windsor, and one bus cohort from St. Anne French Immersion Catholic Elementary in Windsor.
Two cases of COVID-19 were confirmed at St. Anne, with one each at the other two schools.
"We learned of the confirmed cases [Tuesday] morning and have notified the affected students that they are not to attend school Wednesday," said board spokesman Stephen Fields. "The health unit will notify those students when they are able to return to school."
Students who have not already been identified as being close contacts can attend school Wednesday as usual.
As of Tuesday evening, the WECDSB had a total of 13 active COVID-19 cases involving students. All of the board's buildings are open for in-person classes.
Meanwhile, at the Greater Essex County District School Board, nine schools have reported cases since Monday. They were reported at A.V. Graham Public, Centennial Central, D.M. Eagle, David Suzuki, Legacy Oak, Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth, Belle River District High School, and the GECDSB virtual secondary school. Eight students and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
The English public board does not publicly identify the number of classes or bus cohorts sent home.
