The City of Windsor will be offering transportation to Peche Island again this summer.
Starting July 18, the boat will launch from the Lakeview Park Marina every Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday until early October. Tours begin each day at 10 a.m. and the last ride to the island will be at 2 p.m.
The tours were paused during the pandemic. In 2019, about 1,300 riders enjoyed a trip to and from the island.
“Residents are excited to hear that the boat taxi to Peche Island will resume this summer! It's a lovely way to spend a summer day with family and friends. Bring a picnic lunch and experience a leisurely day exploring the historic island — its one of our loveliest regional treasures,” said Councillor Jo-Anne Gignac.
In 1883, Peche Island was purchased by Hiram Walker for a summer home. The City of Windsor bought the land in 1999 to protect it as a naturalized area.
Anyone interested in reserving a spot can call the City of Windsor at 519-255-1161. Pets and bikes are not allowed on the boat.
The cost of the trip is $7.75 round trip, children under three can ride for free.
