UPDATE: Health Unit announces eight more measles exposure points

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is warning residents who were at eight locations earlier this month to watch for symptoms of measles over the next three weeks, especially those who aren't vaccinated.

Three of them were listed on Tuesday afternoon, and the other five on Wednesday afternoon.

The first is at the WE Kidz Pediatrics and Urgent Care on Huron Church Road in Windsor on Monday, April 14, with an exposure time from 1:55 p.m. to 4:10 p.m.

The second is on Friday, April 18, at Blytheswood Old Colony Mennonite Church on Mersea Road 8 in Leamington, between 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m.

The third is on Sunday, April 20, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Union Avenue in Ruthven. The exposure time is between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.

The next one is at the Walmart Supercentre on Erie Street South in Leamington on Monday, April 21. The health unit said the exposure is between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On the same day, there was an exposure at the FreshCo in Leamington on Erie Street between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

The sixth exposure is at the Guardian-Malotts Pharmacy on Main Street East in Kingsville on Tuesday, April 22, between 10:06 a.m. and 12:45 p.m.

The next series is at Erie Shores Healthcare at the main entrance, waiting room, and patient assessment rooms. The exposure was on Tuesday, April 22, between 11:15 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. On Thursday, April 24, there was another exposure at the hospital from 6:32 a.m. to 5:43 p.m. on Friday, April 25.

Finally, there was an exposure at the Central Erie Shores Walk-In Clinic on Princess Street in Leamington, on April 22 between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m., and again on April 23 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The virus can live on surfaces and in the air for up to two hours after the infected person leaves. It can also be contracted through direct contact with secretions from the person's mouth or nose.

Those with measles can spread the virus to others five days before they get the tell-tale rash and four days after it disappears.

Measles can cause long-term health issues in the lungs, ears, or brain.
