The Town of Amherstburg is celebrating the grand opening of two new amenities at the Libro Centre on Saturday, a new bike trail and a new skate park.
A Libro Centre Celebration Day starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
"The Libro Centre Celebration Day marks a significant moment for our town," said Mayor Michael Prue. "These new outdoor amenities will enhance the quality of life for our residents, fostering a sense of community, health, and well-being."
Councillors approved the skate park in the 2022 budget. The bike trail is in this year's fiscal plan.
The skate park is designed to international standards and is open to skateboarders, inline skaters, and BMX enthusiasts.
"This state-of-the-art amenity will provide an exhilarating space for locals to showcase their skills, foster camaraderie, and inspire the next generation of extreme sport enthusiasts," said a release from the town.
The town partnered with Windsor Essex Bike Community to build a network of paths and trails for riders of all levels. Officials will unveil phase one on Saturday.
"We truly hope this trail will allow for endless hours of fun for local youth, families and riders from all over Windsor and Essex County," said James Braak with the Windsor-Essex Bike Community. "This new Libro Centre trail network we have built represents the true power of community and is the first-ever volunteer-built and funded mountain bike trail in Windsor and Essex County history."
