The Town of Tecumseh is gathering information after a flood over Canada Day weekend caused damage to its arena.
During a 34-millimetre rainfall on Sunday, July 2, drainage issues caused flooding at Tecumseh Arena. In a report received Monday night by Tecumseh Town Council, the flooding was caused by the high volume of water and a partial blockage of the storm drain at the outflow zone.
The flood caused damage to the lower walls and floor in the recreation office, the canteen floor, and the rubber flooring in the lobby, dressing rooms, and corridor. Maximum water depth was about an inch in some areas.
Crews immediately contacted a restoration company, which helped staff clear out the water.
A preliminary damage report indicated that increased mold and bacteria were expected due to the standing water.
Any specific assessment of damage cost has yet to be worked out. Beth Gignac, Tecumseh's director of community and recreation services, told WindsorNewsToday.ca that a report on the scope of the damage and any cost estimates will go to Town Council at its July 25 meeting.
No activities or programs have been disrupted, but the Town reported that arena and recreation department staff have been temporarily moved to other quarters in the arena or Town Hall.
