The Town of Amherstburg is cutting the ribbon on two new playgrounds and breaking ground on a third on Monday.
Town officials will be at Jack Purdie Park on Richmond Street between Kentucky Avenue and Illinois Street at 11 to open a new playground for children in that neighbourhood.
Later in the morning, they'll cut the ribbon on a new playground at Briar Ridge Park near Fryer Street.
Town councillors approved those projects last year as part of the town's commitment to expand and improve recreational spaces.
Last month, the town celebrated the grand opening of two amenities at the Libro Centre, a skate park and a bike trail.
The groundbreaking ceremony for a new playground at Warren Mickle Park starts at 12:30 p.m.
"The opening of Jack Purdie and Briar Ridge Park playgrounds, coupled with the groundbreaking for Warren Mickle Park, is a testament to our commitment to creating accessible spaces for our residents to enjoy," said Mayor Michael Prue. "These parks will not only enhance the physical well-being of our community but also foster a sense of togetherness and pride."
The community raised $10,000 for the playground on McLeod Avenue under the leadership of resident Kurt Reffle.
The park is located near Amherst Pointe and is named after local nature photographer Warren Mickle, who lived and worked nearby.
It's in the flood plain of Big Creek Watershed, so the town spent $75,000 addressing drainage issues last year.
