Mayor's golf tournament cracks the all-time half-million-dollar mark

A charity golf tournament hosted by a Windsor-Essex mayor has resulted in a payday for 21 local organizations.

Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara presented the 14th Annual Mayor's Charity Golf Tournament on September 11 at Beach Grove Golf and Country Club in Tecumseh.

$50,000 was raised during the tournament, bringing the all-time total to over $500,000.

Half of the money raised was presented Thursday to the Community Support Centre (CSC) of Essex County.

"We are thrilled to earmark the majority of this year’s proceeds to the CSC as they celebrate their 40th anniversary of caring for the growing population of seniors in Windsor-Essex," said McNamara in a media release.

Lakeshore Mayor Tracey Bailey, the executive director of the CSC, said it is grateful to be the primary recipient.

"We were honoured to be recognized with 21 other community groups and charities," said Bailey. "Thank you to the donors, players, sponsors, and all who played a part in making this magic happen. Thank you, Mayor McNamara, and the whole committee for your leadership, kindness, and, of course, sweat equity."

The other 21 groups will split the remaining $25,000 of the proceeds.
