UPDATE: Rally For Increased Care

Over a dozen local long-term care workers and seniors rallied outside Vision Nursing Home in Sarnia Wednesday morning.

They are asking the province to make four hours of daily hands-on care for residents the law.

President of CUPE 2557 Deborah Maxfield says the public can show support through their petition.

"There's 77,000 residents in long-term care, so we're trying to get one signature per resident," says Maxfield at Sarnia's rally Wednesday. "We're hoping to get it to Queen's Park in the fall to make it the law."

They are among hundreds of LTC staff across the province participating in a week of actions to highlight the need for increased care for long-term care residents.

"We've been out since Monday. We've been lobbying MPP's, we've been at grocery stores getting signatures, we've been going around to all kinds of places," says Maxfield.

Long-term care workers continue their rally in Wallaceberg at 1pm, and Chatham at 3pm Wednesday.
