Lambton College has officially signed the Indigenous Education Protocol.
A ceremony was held at Lambton College Aboriginal Cultural Learning Centre Thursday afternoon.
The document was developed by College and Institutes Canada in consultation with partners in indigenous communities. It underscores important structures and approaches required to address the learning needs of indigenous people.
"It's going to really continue to provide us with a good road map as to where we need to go as a college in terms of serving the educational needs of our indigenous learners and the surrounding communities," says Executive Director of Student Services Rob Kardas.
Kardas believes the students will be further supported through this document.
"Because this is specific to their learning, I think this is going to do nothing but improve the environment for them, the degree to which they're welcome here, and the way they learn here."
170 indigenous students attend Lambton College last year. The school now joins over 34 other schools who have also signed onto the protocol.
