Two men are charged after a Walpole Island police officer sustained significant injuries in an assault last Saturday evening. Lambton OPP were asked to assist First Nation police at about 6:30 July 4. Police say a Walpole police Constable tried to arrest a male on an outstanding warrant when an altercation occurred with the individual and his brother. OPP say the officer suffered substantial injuries but was eventually released from hospital after treatment. Following an extensive investigation, 27-year-old Edward A. Sands and 20-year-old Walter C. Sands, both of Walpole Island, face numerous charges including aggravated assault of a peace officer and disarming a peace officer. The two men were held in custody and appeared before a Bail Court in Sarnia Monday.
