NOVA Donates $25K To YMCA Aboriginal Program

For the second year in a row, NOVA Chemicals has generously donated $25,000 towards the Aboriginal program at the YMCA Leadership Challenge Centre.

At a cheque presentation ceremony on Oakdale Ave. Wednesday morning, YMCA President and CEO Jim Janzen says it's important to invest in the youth of tomorrow.

"From a YMCA and community perspective, the youth are our future," says Janzen. "And by building out that relationship with young people, getting them involved in positive leadership experiences, we build tomorrow's leaders."

The donation will allow youth, aged 14-17 years old, to participate in leadership programs at no charge.

Janzen says the property has been there three years and features six to eight different elements on the property, including a rock climbing wall.

NOVA Chemicals representative Rob Thompson says supporting this program is in direct alignment of their investment principles.

"NOVA believes in investing today in the youth who will be the leaders of tomorrow," says Thompson. "We're particularly proud of this program and its connection to the Aboriginal youth."

The Y reaches out to children and families throughout the community to provide opportunities they might otherwise never have.

Wednesday is International Youth Day.
