President's Choice Children's Charity has awarded a local family $20,000 to go towards a wheelchair accessible vehicle for their daughter.
19-year-old Victoria Keating was born with spina bifida and relies on her mom for various daily activities, including transportation around the city.
Tanya Keating says the vehicle will help her daughter get to school at Lambton College in the fall.
"So this makes her life easier. It enhances her, it makes her more independent, and it gives her, her own," says Tanya.
She says the van will have modified features to allow Victoria access.
"Modifications are a little bit different for Victoria because she does everything with her hands. So everything has to be on the steering wheel including breaks, gas, all that kind of stuff."
There was a cheque presentation Friday afternoon at Sarnia's Real Canadian Superstore.
Store Manager Rob Ware says in the past two years, they've been thrilled to present grants to three families.
Since 1989, the charity has awarded $100-million and supported more than 1.8-million children across Canada.
