Lambton Ontario Provincial Police have noticed a spike in calls reporting odd raccoon behaviour. The detachment has received 41 calls since September 1, saying the animals have been acting "weird" or "cute". Constable Chris Doupe says the likely cause is Canine Distemper Virus. [audio mp3="http://blackburnnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Doupe-1.mp3"][/audio] Raccoons with distemper may move slowly or stumble. They appear blind or confused and can become aggressive when cornered and can have seizures, coughing or tremors. The virus doesn't pose a threat to human health but dogs that aren't vaccinated could become infected if bitten If you come across a raccoon with these symptoms, you're urged to call OPP or Animal Control.
