Flash Mob For Mental Health (VIDEO)

Lambton College students let loose Thursday in a choreographed flash mob promoting mental health awareness on campus.

About 30 students took part in the eight-minute long routine to 'Stayin' Alive' by the Bee Gees and Kenny Loggin's 'Footloose'.

Student participant Tyler Belanger says the goal was to bring positive energy to stressful students and to just be silly.

"People are alone sometimes and they're afraid of what people think of them, but when they see other people do that, they'll be like 'wow, if these people can do it, I can do it as well,'" says Belanger.

Charlene Mahon, faculty advisor with student led group jack.org, says the event is part of Unleash the Stress week on campus.

"I think for eight minutes, people got to release that stress and not think about their exams or their assignments and just enjoy people having fun," says Mahon. "Sometimes we can't take a day off of work or a day off of school, but we can take eight minutes and maybe get a breath of relaxation."

Immediately afterwards, students walked from the campus entrance on London Rd. to Finch Dr., promoting their commitment to mental health awareness to the community.

Lambton College's Jack.org chapter aims to educate and build awareness of mental health, and is in memory of Jack Windeler who unexpectedly committed suicide at Queens University in 2010.
