Fierce Autumn Squall Hits Sarnia

A brief but fierce autumn squall blew through Sarnia Friday morning signalling the end to three straight days of record warm temperatures.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Sarnia-Lambton and then posted a wind warning for the London area.

A sharp cold front from lower Michigan brought wind-whipped torrential rain just after 7:30am Friday.

Bluewater Power reported scattered outages including in the Scott Rd. area and Tank St. in Petrolia.

Over 2,800 Hydro One customers lost service in the Corunna area. Crews were dispatched to make repairs.

A return to seasonal temperatures is forecast for the weekend with a high of 10 C (50 F) Saturday.

New record high temperatures were set in Sarnia Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, very unusual conditions for the first week of November in southern Ontario.

The mercury reached 23.2 C (73 F) at Chris Hadfield Airport Thursday, smashing the previous mark of 20.6 C for November 5 set in 1978. (With files from Dave Dentinger)
