The local Muslim and Unitarian communities have joined together to support Syrian refugees and hope to see the first family arrive in Sarnia-Lambton early in the new year.
They're working with the Mennonite Central Community in Kitchener which already has a sponsorship agreement with the federal government in hopes of having the first family arrive early in the New Year.
Unitarian Fellowship of Sarnia spokesman Allan McKeown says they need to raise $30,000 to support a family of five for their first year in Sarnia.
