Imperial Oil made an initial appearance in Provincial Offences Court in Sarnia Friday morning in connection with a hydrocarbon release February 7, 2014.
The company is charged under the Environmental Protection Act.
The case has been adjourned until the new year in order to review what's described as a significant amount of disclosure. The company will be back in court March 11 to resolve or set a date for resolution.
Imperial Oil was charged in October 2015, in the alleged discharge of coker stabilizer thermocracked gas into the environment that caused, or was likely to have caused an adverse effect.
At the time, Imperial Oil described the release as an odorous light hydrocarbon, saying that air monitoring showed no measurable levels of hydrogen sulphide or hydrocarbons downwind.
As a result of the release, Bluewater Health shut down the air intake system at its Sarnia site as a precaution.
