Sarnia-Lambton is mourning the loss of a respected, long-time municipal and county politician.
Former Point Edward Mayor Dick Kirkland has died at the age of 83.
Mr. Kirkland was born at the family home in the village and became involved in his community at the age of 28 with the Point Edward School Board.
His community service would span nearly 60 years before his retirement in late 2013.
Dick Kirkland served as reeve and then three terms as mayor, the first two by acclamation. He was re-elected mayor in 2010 in a three-way race.
Current Mayor Larry MacKenzie says his friend will be greatly missed but his accomplishments live on.
