Mayor Disappointed By Council 'Drama'

Sarnia's mayor says he's disappointed city council discussed perceived instability at city hall Monday night and formally called for action to address it. Mike Bradley, who did not attend the meeting due to other commitments, says there was no public notice. "The unfortunate thing about all the drama is that it doesn't serve the city, it doesn't serve the taxpayers," says Bradley. "The other thing that's unfortunate from what I heard from different media sources was that none of this was on the agenda. So in other words, the public didn't even have the opportunity to understand what was being talked about."

"That in itself can create issues with the ombudsman, that you're supposed to have public notice of anything of substance you're talking about." Concerns about the recent departure of the city clerk and planning director were raised during the "new business" part of the agenda and council voted 6-2 to use tools at its disposal to stabilize the environment at city hall.

Councillor Mike Kelch opposed the motion saying it was sort of like a vote of non-confidence in the mayor. David Boushy called it an overreaction. Tools available to council could include the integrity commissioner or ombudsman.
