The City of Sarnia is warning residents to toboggan at their own risk this winter. Signs have been posted at six of Sarnia's most popular hills, reminding users they are not formally authorized spaces to toboggan. Director of Parks and Recreation Beth Gignac says Centennial and Tecumseh Parks often see large crowds. "The slopes that people are using are there for another purpose, which is generally either to act as a wind buffer or some other kind of buffer in these park areas. So they aren't purpose designed for sledding or sliding of any sort," she says.
"I just ask people to, if they choose to do that, to be cautious." Last year, the city considered two other options of banning the activity and maintaining a formal tobogganing site, but settled for the 'middle-ground' approach of using signage instead.
