The Ontario government is spending an additional $107,900 per year to improve mental health services for children and youth in Lambton county.
The funding will allow St. Clair Child and Youth Services to hire a full time social worker and two part-time mental health workers.
Four new walk-in sites will also be established locally, and more family supports will be added to address attachment and anxiety issues.
"St. Clair Child and Youth Services is pleased to respond to the local priorities identified through engagement and collaboration with community stakeholders and the children, youth and families of Sarnia and Lambton County," says St. Clair Child and Youth Services Executive Director Sue Barnes. "This investment not only increases our capacity to deliver mental health services to children, youth and families, it strengthens our partnerships with community stakeholders as we move forward together to provide a better system of care."
The funding is part of a province-wide investment of $6-million to hire 80 new workers and help 4,000 more children and their families across Ontario.
St. Clair Child and Youth is the lead agency for children and youth mental health in Lambton.
